Open coal mines are killing river Damodar near my village, says a girl child...

My name is Chitra Kumari. I am calling from Bagmara block of Dhanbad district in Jharkhand. Damodar river flows next to my village but the river is in bad shape thanks to coal mines in the area. Many of them throw their waste direct in the river. Thousands of villages and lakhs of people depend of the river. Many Kondareddy primitive tribal families in my village do not have ration card

Used to till forest land from 3 generations, Came rights act and land is gone!

Jagdish Ji with Land rights cycle Yatra in Jaba block of Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh has reached village Manari today. There he meets a widow called Dukhiya. She tells him that they were farming a forest land from last 3 generations. Then forest rights act came in 2006. Govt came with computers to measure the land and then the land was snatched by some powerful people. She complained to police but there is no action. Piped drinking water is coming to this village but not to adivasi homes!

My name is Mukesh Kumar. I am calling from Jaba block of Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. On 15th day of our cycle yatra we have reached a village called Raghunathpur. Here Govt is bringing piped drinking water to people’s houses but the water is not being brought to adivasi houses. The local adivasis tell that they have no option but to look for laborer work all around the whole day. This is the situation after so many years of independence.
