Tribals use Satyanashi for curing skin disorders

Satyanashi (Mexican Prickly Poppy) is also known Peeli Kateri or Peela Dhatura. The botanical name of this plant is Argemone maxicana. This spinous plant has many medicinal values. Tribals in India prepare juice of the roots and add Kali Mirch (Black Pepper) to it and supplement it to patients suffering from leprosy. Tribals in Patalkot use this plant for curing male sexual debility. For this they prepare a decoction of bark of this plant, latex of banyan tree and solid sugar. Later, they prepared small pills out of it and then it is given for 15 consecutive days. Tribals in Dang District of Gujarat, boil the seeds in water, the oil content comes at the superficial layer of water. The oil is then taken away using a cotton plug. The cotton is rolled over skin parts with problems such as eczema, wounds etc. Leaves of this plant are said to be effective in pain and arthritis. Surankand: Adivasi medicine for piles and dysentery...

Dr Deepak Acharya share information about how tribals in India use Surankand (Elephant Yam) in their day to day life for medicine purposes. Surankand is also known as Sooran or Jimikand. The botanical name of this plant is Amorphophallus campanulatus. The rhizome is served as vegetable in rural and urban areas in India. Rhizome is the most important medicinal part of this plant. The rhizome is hard and it contains protein, fat, carbohydrates, bases, calcium, phosphorus, iron and vitamins A & B. Mostly the rhizome is used in piles, respiratory disoders, cough, gout and expelling worms. In rural areas, rhizome is used to cure Arsh (Piles) and therefore it is also called as Arshigna (One that cures Piles). Tribals ask patients to wash the rhizome in salted water and chew it directly, it cures piles. For patients suffering from liver disorders, Surankand is a boon. Curry prepared from the rhizomes of the plant is said to be very effective in liver related problems. In case of diarrhea, dried powder of the rhizome is taken and roasted in ghee. To it, add little sugar and give it to the patient. It helps a lot. It is very effective in curing diarrhea and dysentery. Curry of rhizome is very good in weakness and low sperm count. Onion is also used as a medicine in tribal areas

Dr Deepak Acharya shares information about how tribals use Pyaj (Onion) in their day to day health practices.Pyaj is a wonderful spice commonly seen in all Indian kitchens. The botanical name of this plant is Allium sativum. Pyaj contains important chemicals such as glutamine, argenine, cystine, saponins and carbohydrates. Crush seeds of Pyaj in acetic acid (vinegar) and apply externally in the cases of eczema and skin afflictions. Pyaj sap should be mixed in mustard oil and applied over painful joints, it helps in relieving the pain. Aged people and children those who suffer from chronic bronchitis or sever cough, they should take Pyaj extract and sugar candy. It is said to be a good expectorant. Salt along with Pyaj sap helps in relieving gum bleeding, gum ache and swelling. There are two type of Pyaj available, white and red. White Pyaj is very good for the heart patients. People suffering from low sperm count, they should always consume Pyaj along with honey. In Patalkot, tribesmen apply Pyaj sap over the body part bitten by wasp or bee. Chaulai bhaji: Tribal fertility cure...

Choulai (Prickly Amaranth) is a herb commonly used as curry. According to tribesmen in India, if Choulai roots are crushed in rice starch and given to a lady, it improves chances of conceiving. Roots of the plant, if wrapped as poultice over forehead, relieves headache. People suffering from stomach ache should always consume it. For treating wound, boils, Patalkot tribals prepare extract of the roots and apply it to the affected body parts. In case of burning sensation and palpitation, the leaves should be grind and applied. For increasing breast size, tribals suggest that a combination of Choulai and Tuar Daal (Pigeon Pea) should be cooked and taken by the ladies. Whole plant is said to be effective in piles too. The curry of plant leaf provides good nutrition to the kids. According to the tribals, it helps in promoting body-mass and it is good to combat weakness. Latjeera seeds can be used as a weight loss medicine...

Latjeera is a common weed found in abundance in farms, fields, road side and in forests. The botanical name of the plant is Achyranthes aspera. The plant is identified with its Cumin like seeds growing at top in a form of spike. According to tribesmen in Patalkot, the plant has great medicinal values. The seeds should be boiled in water and a decoction is prepared. This decoction is said to be very effective in liver related disorders. Roast seeds of Latjeera in an earthen pot and consume it. It is supposed to be a good hunger killer. This can be used as a natural weight reducer. In problems like gum bleeding, swelling and bad breath, the twigs of the plant can be used as Datun (a brush). Leaves of the plants are good in wound healing. It also checks continuous bleeding. Roots of the plants are boiled and if given to a childless lady during mensus, it helps in conceiving. People with sleeping disorders, stress and anxiety, should take leaves of the plant. Leaves alongwith Heeng can be chewed to relieve toothache. Leaves help in cough and cold.
