People are protesting because the iron ore mines have increased pollution in the area and have not fulfilled their past promises. Subhash Gayali from Dhanbad district of Jharkhand says a company called ONGC is trying to build a factory in a village and is trying to buy lands from villagers by force. The company is not offering any jobs to local youth or facilities to farmers. Villagers have done a dharna and the company has now assured to respond to the demands by one week. Subhash Gayali is telling us about a one day token hunger strike in front of Raj Bhavan in Ranchi by villagers from East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. He says people said they wanted to protest on various breach of contracts by companies. They alleged that Uranium thrown by UCIL is affecting people’s lives but we are told that Uranium Corporation is under PMs office so state Govt can not help.
