Incidents of theft increasing in Odisha city, Local police officer blames Maoists!

Impact: Bonded Odia child labour rescued in Andhra after Swara message...

Vishnu Sharma from Bolangir in Odisha is helping us speak to Raju Mahanand (13) who was bonded in a brick kiln in Andhra. His brother and mother had worked for 3 years in the kiln but when they tried to return home the owner kept Raju bondage. His brother appealed to court and had talked about the order in Swara. NREGA: Take Rs 200 and keep your mouth shut, says officer...

Vishnu Sharma from Bolangir district of Odisha says couple of months back I has sent an interview with few laborers who had told that they had not got their NREGA wages from 2 years. After the interview went out on Swara I got a call from Panchayat Secretary of Odisha who had promised to solve the problem. Indeed there was an inquiry but the laborers still have not any wages. The officials instead asked the laborers to take Rs 200 and keep their mouth shut. Mr Sharma is reading out the messages from some laborers as there is no phone connectivity in those villages. NREGA payments are late by years, people loosing hope

Vishnu Sharma from Katabhanji in district Bolangir in Odisha says in his area NREGA payments are late and people are loosing hope. He mentions the case of an adivasi Chitman Baria who gave his land for construction of road to Govt and also worked as labour for 45 days but he is yet to get paid his wages after a year.
