Raju Kumar from Chatra district in Jharkhand says in all the villages around him handpumps are lying unrepaired. Specially he says there are many schools where hand pumps are not working and children are having a hard time. It is also difficult to cook their mid day meals. After last Panchayat election government has given money to each village sarpanch for hand pump repair. He would like to ask where has that money gone which needs investigating. Natthulal Ji from Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh is telling us various stories about adivasis being harassed by forest department and local higher class people from his area. He tells us about some cases where people have got land deeds under forest rigths act but forest department is throwing them out. In some places survey has been completed, in some places people are using forest land from 1995 but upper caste locals and forest department is using force and not allowing them to farm. Rajim Ketwas from Pithora in Chhattisgarh is telling us about their experience with Swara. She says we are using Swara from last 2 years and today I would like to share the positive results we have had so far. Many people in our area had not got their NREGA wages for months. After reporting on Swara they got the wages within a week. We also stopped some fraud in the scheme after reporting. In some villages there was corruption in Public Distribution system and people who did not pay bribes were not given subsidized ration for months. After villagers told their story on Swara, newspaper people helped us and people got BPL cards and ration within a week. Forest Rights act was not getting implemented properly in this area and when we spoke about it on Swara we got a call from Chief Secretary of the state the next day and higher forest oficials visited and we got our rights under FRA very soon. Simga Gram Panchayat in Tirdah block of Giridih district in Jharkhand is a remote area surrounded by hills and forests. Aparna Marandi is visiting there today and tells us that thanks to Rajiv Gandhi rural electrification mission villagers have got electricity around 6 months back but the electricity never comes in the night. Sometimes during the day the power comes but it goes off as soon as the night falls. If Govt has spent so much for people then they should also ensure that poor people gets its benefit.
