Allegation of lax safety standards for daily wage workers
Yashwant Ramteke from Bacheli in Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh says National Mineral Development Corporation which has iron ore mines in the area uses double standards as far as safety of the workers is concerned. He says NMDC takes care well of its full time employees but daily wage laborers who are mainly local adivasis they are ignored. Police entered houses, adivasis burnt them to keep tradition
Khuturam Sunani from Nuapada district of Odisha is telling us about adiavasi traditions. He says it is said that adivasi festivals are synonyms of drinking. But he witnessed a 15 day long festival of Chutia Bhunjia adivasis where even touching of liquor is prohibited. He says this community treats their kitchen as most sacred and do not allow any male outsider there. Few days back when police entered their houses suspecting them as maoists, the adivasis burnt more than 100 houses. He says similar adivasi traditions should be preserved. A village with 10 handpumps and 20 liquor shops!
Khuturam Sunani is telling us today about a village in Bolangir district in Odisha. He says Bolangir is known for drought and distress migration but this vlllage is known for its drinking. The village has 10 handpumps but 20 liquor shops. Additionally it has an english liquor shop. The situation is so bad that many have deposited their BPL cards to continue drinking. NREGA: No payment for 6 months, complaints do not help
Khuturam Sunani from Nuapada district of Odisha says according to law NREGA payment should be made within 2 weeks but in one village in his district workers have not been paid for more than 6 months now.
