Earlier we used to grow Kodo and Kutki millets and were earning very less. But few years ago an NGO came to our village and advised us to shift to paddy cultivation and helped us made bunds to grow paddy. Around 90% of adivasi farmers of my village of 800 people shifted to paddy and are earning more today says Krishan Kumar Paraste from Kukdur village in Pandaria block of Kabirdham district in Chhattisgarh. Law says if we don’t get payment within 15 days in NREGA then Govt will give us compensation but when I complained about it I only got the wages and no compensation. Collector also replied saying my wages have been paid. I applied in labour court but not much is moving there too. We are waiting for compensation for failed crop of pulses from 2014. Then paddy also did not grow in 2015. Some have got compensation for 2014 but none have got for 2015.
