Bihar Govt not listening to demands of Bhudan protesters
About 22 lakh acres of land was donated to Vinoba from united Bihar during the Bhudan movement. This was more than that donated in any other part of the country. 62 years down the line people have forgotten Vinoba feels Vijay Bhai of Bihar Sarvodaya Mandal, Patna. The government and the Bhoodan committee is playing around with the donated land in a shameful way which is not only unfair to the poor beneficiaries, and insulting to the great leader, it is also against the very spirit of the Bhoodan movement.
Between 4th and 6th Novemeber, a satyagrah was held in the Hiding Park of Patna where about 5000 Bhoodan farmers gathered for a fast. The hungry and thirsty crowd camped for three days but not a single Government official even visited them to listen to their plaint.Thrice earlier, people had demonstrated – in Saharsa three ministers even visited and assured people of suitable action. Bihar Sarvodya Mandal filed a PIL in Patna High Court in 2007. The government was granted a two year period for taking corrective action by the honorable court- but nothing has happened. Police chases away people protesting Vedanta rail line
On the 23rd people got together in Lanjigarh in Odisha to oppose the Vedanta railway line. A police force lathicharged the demonstrators , broke down their tents, and chased them for about 5 kilometres. Giridhari Patro questions the role of the police in the matter of a peaceful opposition to a life affecting change by a private corporation. People do not want the railway line. Earlier the group opposing Vedanta was small, they were an unknown entity. But the continued police support for the company and the brutal response to the participants in movement has raised awareness, and brought them together. People’s opposition of the company will only grow warns Patro who can be reached at 9583022500
