Jharkhand : Chandil dam affected get reprive thanks to their struggle

Arvind Anjum from Visthapit Mukti Vahini in Jharkhand is reporting about their struggle to stop the closure of dam gates when rehabilitation is not complete. He says it is a big victory for the people. Visthapit Mukti Vahini is an organisation of 15,000 people of 116 villages in Chandil area where a dam is being built from last 30 years. People are demanding that their compensation should be increased and they should be allowed to use water from the dam. Government has responded by increasing the number of officers working on rehabilitation

Gogamba : Still no action against forest officials

You have heard about beatings of Adivasis by forest officials in Devlikuan village of Gogamba block in district Panchmahal of Gujarat in this forum. On 9th September they went to local officials asking to check on what happened to their FIR which was filed on 28th July. But the officials sent them back after humiliating them. As you know forest officials had beaten the adivasis who were working on their ancestral forest land on 9th July and an FIR was filed only when adivasis had protested under the banner of a local NGO. According to forest rights act the adivasis should get the deeds for the land but forest department wants to throw them out of their land

Illegal mines of Rajasthan may be source of disappeared explosives

Jeene Ka Adhikar Abhiyan in Madhya Pradesh

Priyank Joshi from Water organisation is reporting from Jabalpur that in many villages in that area a Jeene Ka Abhiyan program has started. In the program people in many villages took part in Teachers Day program where they took oath not to bad mouth women, Not to beat any woman and not to take intoxicating product in front of children. They also cooked food together and eat to stay away from caste discrimination. Villagers have made samitis which will organise similar programs in the future
