Some people opposed the expansion and the police resorted to Lathi charge. No one from the board of Pollution Control reached the venue. Those who are opposing the expansion say that the mines cause pollution in their area, and they do not want to give away their land, and some of them can be heard in the recording. According to rules, 30 days of advance notice should be given in 2 prominent news papers by the Pollution Control Board. However they placed an ad only in the Indian Express, and nothing was announced in the local press. For more please contact Littu Minj of Kutra Prakhand Sundargarh District at 08895938371

Traditional pathways blocked due to development

This message from Sundargarh district in Orissa talks of the problems faced by villagers due to mining. The OCL cement crushing plant company gets its raw material from Lanjigarhna. Litu says that the path to its rise is well known, but what is special today is that due to the company’s mines now the passage between Lanjigarh and Bihawan and Khairawasta Bihawan are cut off. People are not able to reach their farms from their homes. This path is an old one, people have used it freely in the past. When it rained people had to cross the mines from these paths which were determined by their Panchayat. The company is destroying the existing path way. This matter is not going to end here, other villages are also going to be affected. School children will also suffer. Please contact the Tehsildar Saroj Kumar at 9437062929.
