RTI act has made local officials more responsible: Adivasi activist

Herman Minj from Sundergarh district in Odisha is talking to Mr Barla who is an Right to Information activist. This adivasi RTI activist tells him that he has filed more than 150 applications so far and local officials are aware of power of RTI now and behave more responsibly for the act. He has managed to get local officials fined by Rs 25,000 for providing late information but due to this work he has also been to jail for 24 days. He is now out on bail and his case continues. Farmers protest against cement plants from 2 years, no one listens

Farmers are sitting in dharna from last 685 days against it but no one is listening to them. Opposition party BJP is also not supporting the agitating farmers. Forest officer threatening to throw away from our land, please help

Hem Singh Markam is an adivasi from Sujankhar village in Pandaria block of Kawardha district of Chhattisgarh. He says I had reported few days back that a forest ranger is threatening us to throw us out of our village but I got no response. The ranger wants to do plantation on our land. Mr Gond is living on forest land from 1960 but no land deed yet!

Ashok Singh Paigam from Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh is telling us the story of Kohram Say Gond an adivasi who is living on a forest land from 1960s. He has paid fines to forest department all these years. According to Forest Rights Act he should be getting the land deed but not only the officials ill treat him whenever he requests for the same, the forest department has burnt his house quite a few times.
