Essar has a plant to transport iron ore in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh from last 5 years which has taken land from people. Now Essar wants more land and to please people they are distributing umbrellas and cows. Anil Bamne from Kesla in Hoshangabad district in Madhya Pradesh says 25 villages lost their land in late 70s here to make room for firing range of the army. People got very little compensation and suffered. Now there is a rumor floating in the area that Govt will acquire more land in the area. Praful Chandel says last year we have reported on this forum about huge Malaria problem in few blocks of Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh but it seems Govt has not learnt any lessons. Today two people have died in Marwahi block. We are regularly hearing about malaria patients from other areas but neither the medicines are availalable nor there is any training being planned to brief the ground level health staff. Ruchi Panda from Nuapada district of Orissa says since 2005 no traditional forest dweller has got land rights since the law was inacted. And those tribals who have got land rights, their deeds are not eligible for food insurance. 2 thousand people participated in a rally demanding these legitimate rights under banner of Jal jungle Mukti Andolan. But the forest department has captured their land and dug it for plantation.
