Monsoon is coming, people need money but no NREGA wages

Today Bhan Sahu visits some villages in Ambagarh Chowki block of Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. She has found that people have worked on NREGA from February and have not got their wages. She says people need money as the monsoon is arriving and they need to buy seeds and also need to send children to school. Dam was built in 2005, affected farmers have got only assurances

Bhan Sahu today travels to Mogra village 9 kms from Ambagarh Chowki in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. She talks to a villager who tells her that a dam was built in the village in year 2005. Many farmers lost their land but they are yet to get their compensation. He says we went to officials many times. Last year we sat on a dharna and the officials promised we will get compensation by January. Recently we again went to the collector who sent us back giving more assurances. Adivasi girls discontinue education for lack of hostels...

Bhanvarlal Meena from Udaipur district of Rajasthan says adivasi girls in the area are not getting higher education because they need to travel outside for the same, which is inconvenient. Residential hostel for adivasi girls will solve this problem and they have discussed it with local officials and people’s representatives, but that has not resulted in any positive outcome so far. Women get together to stop liquor sale in village in Rajnandgaon

Bhan Sahu is telling story of a village near Ambagarh Chowki in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh where there were 15 families who used to make liquor for their living. But village headman and some women got together and have forced those families to not make liquor. They say now children have also started drinking in the village and those families should find other occupation rather than selling liquor. She tells about two women in the village who are forced to live with their parents due to drinking habit of their husbands
