Still no NREGA payment in Rajnandgaon villages
Bhan Sahu is reporting from villages in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh where NREGA payments have not been made from last many months. Last month people went in big numbers to the Janpad office to complain after spending money on transport but still there is no response. Pension for old and widow has also stopped from last 4 months and the construction of an anganwadi building is not completed in last 4 years. She says this is the situation of development

Panchayti Raj functionaries need to be given knowledge about their role
Bhan Sahu from Rajnandgaon district reports that functionaries of Panchayati Raj system are not given much knowledge about their roles in the system. So panchs and sarpanchs are not able to participate in the decision making process and have only remained an executioners of decisions taken at higher level. For a policy to succeed it is very necessary that people at the grass root level are involved in the whole process of decision making

No payment of Tendu insurance policy after 2 years
Bhan Sahu is reporting that according to government insurance policy in Tendu leaf collection if a person dies during tendu leaf collection then the family gets compensation of Rs 20,000 but affected families have not got the payment from last 2 years. She also talks about some non payment of installment of Indira awas yojna. Due to rain the half built house is now destroyed but the beneficiaries are yet to get their next installments

Shortage of teachers in rural schools
Bhan Sahu is reporting from Mahul area in Rajnandgaon district where in the high school there are no teachers for Maths, Science and English. Students come from far off places to this school but there is no replacement for transferred teachers after 3 months of the start of the session. In Chichli villager there are only 2 teachers to teach the class 9 and 10. How can a single teacher handle all the subjects, she asks. It is not only these two villages it is the story of most of the rural villages

Mogra dam displaced assured of compensation by January
Bhan Sahu from Rajnandgaon is reporting that displaced families of Mogra dam are yet to be compensated for their inundated land. They gave an ultimatum of 2 weeks to the government but when there was no response they sat on a demonstration on the dam and tried to open the dam gates. Government has now assured them that the compensation will be paid by the month of January. Bhan says if the compensation is not paid by promised date then people have decided to start a hunger strike
