With monsoon teak smugglers active in Bastar, forest dept not bothered
Imran Khan from Bhopalpatnam in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh is telling that with farmers, wood smugglers also wait eagerly for monsoon here. With monsoon the smugglers have started putting very expensive teak woods on the river side. They are waiting for water flow in river Indravati. The members of Forest security committee are earning and forest department is not concerned. Once there is enough water in Indravati these logs would go to Andhra and Maharashtra markets. Rally protesting hydel project on Indravati river in Bastar
Yashwant Ramteke from Dantewada tells us that to protest against Bodhghat hydel power project a rally was organised in Jagdalpur yesterday Chhattisgarh Swabhiman Manch. The leader Subhash Maurya says though Govt is not telling anything the proposed dam on Indravati for 50 MW project will submerge more than 72,000 people from 100+ villages in 32 panchayats. 2000+ adivasis languish in Bastar jails without legal help
Mangal Kunjam from Dantewada says there are more than 2000 adivasis lnguishing in various jails in Chhattisgarh who are not able to get bail because they are poor. He gives example of alleged payment to Naxal case where the official of Essar and the contractor has been released in bail but the two adivaisis accussed in the case still remain in jail. Officials are duping tribals from their land in Bastar
Jeebananand from Bastar district of Chhattisgarh says that many tribal land here is illegally being captured by local revenue officials in connivance with influential people.
