Shivsharan Singh from Sonbhadra district in UP says when Nehru came to start work on Rihand dam in 1954 he said this place will be next Switzerland but today it has turned a living hell for locals. Many were displaced. The area supplies 12,500 MW of electricity to country but locals get it hardly for few hours in day. Agriculture production is going down. People suffer from severe pollution. Lamtu Singh from Pushparajgarh tahsil of Anuppur district in Madhya Pradesh says he recently got a chance to visit some hilly areas nearby and saw adivasis doing Bewar ( shifting cultivation). They grow at least 21 variety of crops. He says earlier our ancestors grew all these crops but they got stopped by intervention of forest dept. Now they do daily labor and eat rice after buying. After Forest Rights act officials have given land deeds for one or one and half acre of land to them without visiting the area. Forest dept now are throwing them out by force.
