Narsingh Chouhan and other farmers who were displaced by Jobat dam in Alirajpur district in MP and have been farming on Govt land in Bedla village from 3 years say Govt is again trying to evacuate them from this land. Govt has showed them land which is occupied by people. This year Govt also gave them electricity connection and they paid Rs 26,000 for 3 motors and now Govt has cut the connection. Shivsharan Singh from Sonbhadra district in UP says when Nehru came to start work on Rihand dam in 1954 he said this place will be next Switzerland but today it has turned a living hell for locals. Many were displaced. The area supplies 12,500 MW of electricity to country but locals get it hardly for few hours in day. Agriculture production is going down. People suffer from severe pollution. Lamtu Singh from Pushparajgarh tahsil of Anuppur district in Madhya Pradesh says he recently got a chance to visit some hilly areas nearby and saw adivasis doing Bewar ( shifting cultivation). They grow at least 21 variety of crops. He says earlier our ancestors grew all these crops but they got stopped by intervention of forest dept. Now they do daily labor and eat rice after buying.
