Baiga adivasis travel 30 kms to get subsidized ration
Chandrakant from Chanta village in Kabirdham district says this adivasi village has its subsidized ration shop 30 kms away and the Baiga, Gond adivasis need to travel through steep hills to get their ration. Repeated complaint to officers have not helped. But subsidized ration is not the only problem here. There is a NREGA work going on in the village where law is not being adhered to. Interview with a Mahua liquor seller in Dantewada...
Mangal Kunjam from Dantewada in Chhattisgarh is talking to a Gondi speaking local Mahua liquor seller. Samruram says he sells one bottle of Mahua liquor for Rs 30 and earns around Rs 800 in a month. He says though his village is just 10 kms from the iron ore mines of National Mineral Development corporation but only one person has got a job from his village so far and he is forced to sell Mahua for his livelihood. According to Govt records these villages do not exist...
Yashwant Ramteke from Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh is telling us about villages which do not exist in any official record. He says he met people from a village called Karka about which the local Tahsildar had no idea though the village is just few kilometers from Bailadila mines. Because the village is not in revenue or any other kind of records, the village gets no Govt support and does not have any handpump or school or electricity. Allegation of lax safety standards for daily wage workers
Yashwant Ramteke from Bacheli in Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh says National Mineral Development Corporation which has iron ore mines in the area uses double standards as far as safety of the workers is concerned. He says NMDC takes care well of its full time employees but daily wage laborers who are mainly local adivasis they are ignored. Villagers reject Bodhghat hydel power project plans
A 50 mw hydro power station has again been proposed at Bodhghat by Ramsey company from Hyderabad and some preliminary steps were taken. But 42 villages had meetings of their gram panchayats and have decided that this power project would destroy their water, forest and land.
