600 families displaced from Kanha yet to be rehabilitated
Bhan Sahu is talking to Bairag Singh Tekam from Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh who says that 600 families were displaced from Kanha national park in his area who are yet to be rehabilitated. Forest department had broken their houses by elephant herds and had also burnt them. He says people are also not getting NREGA wages in time. They are generally delayed by more than 6 months. Tribals walk for days to reach but officers are rarely present
Kailash Sahu from Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district of Odisha says this is an adivasi block and officers are rarely found in the offices here. There is not much communication facility in the area. So Adivasis walk for 40-50 kms which takes them one or two days to reach the block headquarters but officers are rarely available. Officers say they do not have enough residential quarters.
