Villagers "cheated" by Jindal coal mines start agitation, Needs your help...
My name is Rajesh Tripathi. I am calling from Raigarh in Chhattisgarh and I want to tell you about indefinite strike started by people of Dongamahua from 7th Sept where Jindals have opened coal mines. The villagers say the assurances given to them during the time of land aquisition has not been fulfilled and the blasting in the mine has cracked more than 265 houses. Panchayat laws do not apply to us, says officials of Coal India!
Jang Sai Koya from Bharat Jan Andolan in Surguja in Chhattisgarh says South Eastern Coalfield Ltd has started work on a coal mine called Mahan-2 without any Gram Sabha clearance. When we went to ask about it they filed a case of Rs 37 lakhs against us saying we have harmed the work of the mines. Now in the case when we asked for a copy of Gram Sabha resolution they have said that Panchayat acts do not apply on them! These officers of Coal India should be penalised. Coal India not giving work to local youth co-operatives in Dhanbad
Mohd Ainul Ansari from Coal mines area in Dhanbad Jharkhand today is talking to Co-operative leader Mohd Gaffar Ansari who tells him that as per government and national Human rights commssion instruction they formed a co-operative 15 years ago but still Coal India is not giving work to local unemployed youth who are part of the co-operative. He describes the story of their struggle and tells all the names of the leaders they have visited but have got no help. Gave land for coal mining, now no electricity for months...
Naim Ji from Dhanbad is visiting a village where he meets Kalyani Roy who is telling him that there is no electricity in their village from last 2 months and authorities just do not listen. She says they lost their land to coal mining but the company does not care for them neither does Jharkhand government. She says very few people have got BPL cards in her village and people are getting almost no help from any development schemes but the biggest problem at the moment in summer is electricity. Agitation intesifies against coal mines after police beatings
Deepak Das from Karnapura Bachao Sangharsh Samiti in Jharkhand says that they have decided to call a bandh in protest of police beating of people protesting coal mines in Hazaribagh public hearing on 15th Feb. 3 people are still in jail. People have decided to observer Janta curfew in their villages and have written slogans in their walls. The agitation in front of NTPC office is continuing from a week.
