NMDC mines is taking away our land, how will we survive?

Mangal Kunjam is interviewing a villager near National Mineral Development Corporation mines in Dantewada who says his NMDC township wants to take their culivable land for building a bus stand and quarters for the workers. The villagers say not only the land taken for the stand but also nearby land will be destroyed which is their only source of income. They have complained to higher authorities but no one listens. Interview with a Mahua liquor seller in Dantewada...

Mangal Kunjam from Dantewada in Chhattisgarh is talking to a Gondi speaking local Mahua liquor seller. Samruram says he sells one bottle of Mahua liquor for Rs 30 and earns around Rs 800 in a month. He says though his village is just 10 kms from the iron ore mines of National Mineral Development corporation but only one person has got a job from his village so far and he is forced to sell Mahua for his livelihood. Innocents in Bastar jail not getting legal help: Kopa Kunjam

Adivasi social activist Kopa Kunjam has come out on bail earlier this month. He was arrested on 10th Dec 2009 on murder charges. In this message he says he thanks all those who stood by him. He says he will continue his work in Bastar. Too many innocent people are in jail in Bastar because they are not getting legal help. He says he will continue to work to send food and medicine to people of Bastar who need it most and will also keep fighting to bring justice and peace to the region.

Mining is destroying trees important for tribal economy...

Mangal Kunjam is telling us from Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh that due to ongoing mining the trees like Imli, Mahua are getting finished in the area. He says forest department only cares for trees like Teak and Eucalyptus. He says adivasis have not got jobs in the mining and depend on these trees for their income. Mining companies are only exploiting we adivasis...

Mangal Kunjam from Dantewada in Chhattisgarh is interviewing an adivasi boy Pankaj Telam who tells him in Gondi that the local mining company National Mineral Development Corporation who is mining in the area from many years is only taking pictures of adivasis to use them in their posters. He says if you go to their offices you will find lots of pictures of adivasis but they have not done much for the development of adivasis rather they are exploiting them.
