Report on movement of Pench dam displaced people in Chhindwada

Dr Sunilam, ex MLA from Baitul in Madhya Pradesh is reporting about movement by Kisan Sangharsh Samiti of Chhindwada demanding better rehabilitation for affected people of Pench dam. He reports that Samiti has now decided to obstruct the dam work demanding land for land according to rehabilitation policy for the 150 affected villages and all the peoples organisations in Gondwana region should support this struggle

Police harasses tribal woman activist in Bastar

Bhan Sahu is reporting about harassment of a tribal woman activist called Jaya in Bastar who works on the issue of domestic violence and other social issues in tribal villages. On the day of Rakhi police in plain clothes arrived at Jaya’s house and tried to intimidate her. Bhan says it looks any woman who comes out of her house to work on social issues is seen as anti social in the eyes of the government

No NREGA payment in Mandla after 6 months

Mithilesh Kumar from Partala village in Mandala district of Madhya Pradesh is reporting that in his area people have not been paid for NREGA work from last 6 months. People are sick in the rainy season and are forced to borrow from moneylenders. May be instead of NREGA if they had worked for any one else they would have been in a better situation, he says

Tribals beaten by forest officers for asking for land rights, no action after FIR

Smita from Panchmahal district of Gujarat reports that on 9th July when tribals demanded rights against Forest Rights Act they were beaten up by officers of forest department even after showing documents to prove ownership of land. After intervention from Deoghar based women’s organisation an FIR was filed on 28th July but still no action has been taken against the forest department officers. Now the tribals are planning an agitation on 9th September demanding punishment of the forest officers and land rights to them
