Villagers suffer due to elephants, department has no money to fight

Virendra Mahto from Ranchi reports that a herd of 40 wild elephants have made life hell for villagers in the district from last 4 months. Forest department has no money to tackle the problem and has been depending on help from people and a buying kerosine oil from the black market on loan from the market. The herd has killed 11 people so far and have destroyed more than 600 acre of crop. In many areas people are forced to stay awake the whole night to chase away the elephants
