Bineshwar Nayak from Ramgarh district of Jharkhand tells us that monsoon has brought happiness in the faces of villagers who are dependent on rains for their crops but it has also brought toilet shame. He says villagers go to fields for toilet but in the monsoon months all the fileds are in use and some times men and women have to defacate in the same space. Govt had started building toiltes in his village for BPL families last year but the project lies uncomplete and unattended. My name is Kodem Venkateswarulu. Mamakannu village, Gundala mandal, Khammam district of Andhra pradesh. We don’t have any roads in the adivasi villages of Gundala mandal. The collector, PO ITDA, Mandal Tahsildar and Block development officer haven’t taken care. We gave lot of Representation, but there is no response. Natthulal Ji from Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh is telling us various stories about adivasis being harassed by forest department and local higher class people from his area. He tells us about some cases where people have got land deeds under forest rigths act but forest department is throwing them out. In some places survey has been completed, in some places people are using forest land from 1995 but upper caste locals and forest department is using force and not allowing them to farm. Rajim Ketwas from Pithora in Chhattisgarh is telling us about their experience with Swara. She says we are using Swara from last 2 years and today I would like to share the positive results we have had so far. Many people in our area had not got their NREGA wages for months. After reporting on Swara they got the wages within a week. We also stopped some fraud in the scheme after reporting. In some villages there was corruption in Public Distribution system and people who did not pay bribes were not given subsidized ration for months. After villagers told their story on Swara, newspaper people helped us and people got BPL cards and ration within a week. Forest Rights act was not getting implemented properly in this area and when we spoke about it on Swara we got a call from Chief Secretary of the state the next day and higher forest oficials visited and we got our rights under FRA very soon.
