A village with 10 handpumps and 20 liquor shops!

Khuturam Sunani is telling us today about a village in Bolangir district in Odisha. He says Bolangir is known for drought and distress migration but this vlllage is known for its drinking. The village has 10 handpumps but 20 liquor shops. Additionally it has an english liquor shop. The situation is so bad that many have deposited their BPL cards to continue drinking. NREGA: No payment for 6 months, complaints do not help

Khuturam Sunani from Nuapada district of Odisha says according to law NREGA payment should be made within 2 weeks but in one village in his district workers have not been paid for more than 6 months now. More than 12 lakhs is due to more than 125 workers and their complaint to collector have not helped. You are requested to call the Collector at 09437120722. Corruption in NREGA: No action after more than a year

Gulaliya Kanasiya from Badwani district in Madhya Pradesh says there were some NREGA work in his village in mid 2010 where some false payments were made.The villagers have submitted a complaint to CEO Badwani on 16/11/10. They followed up with another application on 23/6/11 and then again on 10/8/11 they submitted a third application.

Villagers form organisation to decide their own collective fate

Subhash Gayali from Dhanbad in Jharkhand says people in the area says companies here have destroyed their forest and land a lot and they feel the need to make a people’s organisation to stop further destruction. He speaks to one villager who tells him that they have formed an organisation and will from now on will decide their fate o their own.
