Officer promises on Swara:NREGA payments to be made in 3 days

Prakash Gupta in Ambikapur in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh got hold of Sub Divisional Magistrate, the highest official in a Division today. He asks him live on phone that people in Bilaspur Panchayat in his division have not been paid their NREGA wages from last 2 months. SDM replies that the payment will be done by 15th June. Monsoon is coming, people need money but no NREGA wages

Today Bhan Sahu visits some villages in Ambagarh Chowki block of Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. She has found that people have worked on NREGA from February and have not got their wages. She says people need money as the monsoon is arriving and they need to buy seeds and also need to send children to school. Sarpanch took NREGA wages, threatens to burn if complained

Shankarlal Raikwar from Lalitpur district in Uttar Pradesh says NREGA was created to help the poor but in many cases that is not happening. He mentions a case where Sarpanch and secretary of a village has withdrawn the wages of 2 families and when they tried to complain they were threatenend that their houses will be burnt. Today 2 families have come to complain to collector but past experience of similar complaints tell us that administration has not done anything even when the complaints were found true. Water is the biggest problem, say villagers in MP
