Savita Rath from Raigarh is reporting that many people’s organisations have come together to organise a rally in Raigarh on 1st June to protest the arrest of social activists Ramesh Agrawal and Harihar Patel. Both the social activists were arrested on 28th May on a complaint of misbehavior in a public hearing in May 2010 by an employee of Jindal steel. Bindeshwari Painkra from Kachnar Adivasi Samiti in Surguja says they had done a survey in February which showed that NREGA wages are due from 6 months to one year. Since then minister and secretary has promised for speedy wage payment. But today he is visiting a village called Mangari where more than 50 people have not been paid their wages for more than a year and are planning to go to city in search of work. Zila Panchayat members of Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh have alleged that in two blocks Chhindgarh and Sukma of the district 35,000 workers have not got any MGNREGA wages in last 6 months and the amount of due is more than Rs 2.5 crore. The members said this is a Naxal affected area and workers take a lot of risk for working but when they went to meet CO to complain about it, he refused to meet them.
