Thousands take out rally demanding closure of "illegal" Mahan 2 Coal mines...

Jang Sai Koya from Bharat Jan Andolan tells us that they gave a memorandum to Commissioner Surguja in Chhattisgarh stating that Mahan 2 coal mines project is violating Forest Rights Act and Pesa laws and should be closed. When they did not hear anything though a reply was promised in 2 days thousands took out a rally yesterday demanding the same. He says the illegal mines have made local people’s life very difficult. Forest Rights: No police action against illegal act of forest offcials, pls help...

My name is Jang Sai Koya. I am calling from Rajpur block in Chhattisgarh. We are very pained with the attitude of forest officials towards adivasis. Though Forest Act says if an adivasi has applied for forest land no action should be taken till the application is decided. But forest officials misbehaved with Mr ramchander who is living on forest land from 1991. A case has been registered but no action has been taken against the officials. You are requested to help. Applied under FRA for land but forest officials destroy crop, take away cattle...

Jang Sai Koya from Parsagudi village in Rajpur block in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh says though the Forest rights act says if an adivasi has filed an application for his or her land, that can not be touched unless the case is decided. He says though no deccision has been taken on the applications from my village forest officials have destroyed the crop of Mr Ramchandra and have taken away his cattle.
