Jharkhand: Activist Xavier Dias arrested, Dayamani bail application rejected...
My name is Aloka. I am calling from Ranchi in Jharkhand. Two important incidents took place in the state today. Activist Xavier Dias and 6 colleagues have been sent to jail on a case of 1989 when they had stopped a train during Jharkhand movement. The case was recently reopened and they were arrested in Chaibasa when they appeared in court. In the case of Dayamani Barla bail application was rejected today and we are now moving to High Court. Agitation intensifies against land grab to build IIM Ranchi
Aloka Kujur is reporting live from Ranchi where people are protesting arrival of more police forces to evict people from their land to make room for proposed Indian Institute of Management. Aloka also interviews a woman who says neither our ancestors wanted to give this land when Govt tried to take it 50 years ago nor we want to give it now. Adivasis oppose change in Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act
Aloka Kujur from Ranchi in Jharkhand is reporting about a meeting of Adivasi Moolvasi Astitva raksha manch where they are discussing Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act. She says the adivasisi are saying that they will not tolerate change in the act and if Govt tries to change the act they will be forced to start agitation against the same. Govt removing people by force to give land to IIM Ranchi
Aloka Kujur is reporting live from outside Ranchi where adivasis are protesting against government effort to take away 227 acre of land for Indian Institute of Management. Govt had started procurement process for this land in 1965 but no construction started so many tribals were using the land for their livelihood and were also paying tax.
